Questions:

How long does it take to get my first Online Lesson?

Most tutors get their first lesson within a few weeks of signing up.

There are two main factors which will affect how long it takes you to get your first lesson:

1) Being proactive on site

Tutor requests are a great way of advertising your availability, as is having an up-to-date profile with a well-worded resume and engaging profile video. Most tutors find their first student within a few weeks of joining. If you’re feeling a little lonely with no students, just get in touch and we’ll see what we can do to help.

Our top tip for getting more work is to add a video to your profile - we find that parents are far more likely to approach tutors with videos than those without.

2) Time of year

Tutoring is a seasonal business which peaks in the period before GCSEs and A-levels and is quietest during the summer holiday. Therefore, signing up in April may mean that you can find students much more quickly than if you sign up in July.

However, the rule of thumb is the sooner you sign up, the better – there are always parents and students looking to get in touch with tutors.

How can I manage my workload and availability?

During busy times you may wish to set yourself as unavailable for new students, or edit your general availability. You can update you general availability here or make yourself unavailable from your dashboard. Remember, by taking a student on you are committing to helping them through to their exams - please ensure you have the availability to do so.

If you don't log in for three weeks, then your profile will automatically be made unavailable and hidden from parents and students.

Profile views' are the number of unique users who have recently viewed your profile. A number of factors affect how many people have viewed your profile:

  • Available to tutor if you're not looking for work and have set your profile to 'unavailable', we won't show it to parents.

  • Boost if you're actively looking for work, boost your profile to let us know (read on for more info on this).

  • A great profile photo will increase the chances of parents and students clicking on your profile. It's best that you upload a well lit, high quality photo that is taken of just yourself. A photo taken with you in a professional setting is also a great idea. This doesn't have to be a lecture theatre or classroom, but it might be best to avoid photos of you at the student bar.

  • Profile video we know that only around 10% of tutors have a profile video, so adding one can be a great way to stand out from the crowd.

  • Subjects you offer if the subject or subjects you tutor are particularly popular, you're likely to have more profile views than more niche subjects

  • Time of year tutoring is a seasonal business, so you're likely to get fewer views in our quieter period over the summer.

Why should I boost my profile?

The more lessons completed are AI TutorNinjas machine will boost your visibility in the search pages. Make sure your profile and availability is always up to date.

The blurb of your profile is the first personalised description about you that parents see when they're scrolling through potential tutors to get in touch with.

We recommend that blurbs are short, punchy and to the point. Also, because your profile may come up for more than one subject, we suggest that your blurb be focused on about you, instead of specifically mentioning the subject(s) you tutor.

'Premium Tutor' status is achieved by completing a high level of sessions with a high rating. We class black belt TutorNinjas as premium tutors. We are always reviewing are processes to ensure we are supporting tutors achieve their goals.
